This is the privacy policy for sheeja.in, my professional website. I am Sheeja Ananthakrishnan, and I run the site. It shares my career background, my writing, and links to my independent study of finance. This page explains, in plain language, what information the site collects when you visit it, why, and what choices you have.
The short version
- You do not need an account to read this website.
- I collect only what is needed to run the site, keep it secure, and reply to you.
- I do not sell your personal information.
- If you contact me, whether about a role, a collaboration or a question, I use your details only to reply to you.
- This website does not currently show advertising.
Information I collect
Information you give me. If you contact me through the Contact page or by email, I receive the details you choose to send, typically your name, email address, organization and message. If you leave a comment on a blog post, I collect what the comment form asks for (your name, email address and, optionally, a website), along with the comment itself.
Information collected automatically. Like almost every website, the web server records basic technical data when a page is requested: your IP address, browser and device type, the page you asked for, the page that referred you, and the date and time. I use this to keep the site secure, fix problems and understand overall traffic. I may also use an analytics service (for example, Google Analytics or a similar tool) to see aggregate patterns such as which pages are read most and which countries visitors come from.
Contact and professional enquiries
If you get in touch about a role, an engagement, a collaboration or a question, whether you are a recruiter, a hiring manager, a colleague or a reader, I use what you send only to reply and to follow up on that conversation. I do not add you to a mailing list, and I do not share your details or the content of your message with anyone else without your permission.
Resume download
The Portfolio & Resume page offers a downloadable resume (PDF). You do not need to give any details to download it. Like any page or file on the site, the download is recorded in the web server’s standard logs.
Comments
When visitors leave comments on blog posts, I collect the data shown in the comment form, plus the visitor’s IP address and browser user-agent string to help detect spam.
An anonymized string created from your email address (called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to check whether you use it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available at https://automattic.com/privacy/. After your comment is approved, your profile picture (if you have one) is visible to the public alongside your comment.
Cookies
Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. This site may use the following kinds:
- Essential cookies that keep the site working and secure. Visitors do not need to log in; login cookies are set only for the site’s administrators.
- Comment cookies. If you leave a comment, you may opt in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies so you do not have to retype them. These last one year.
- Analytics cookies from the analytics service described above, if enabled, to measure aggregate usage.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site will still be readable, though some features may behave differently. Where the law requires it, I will ask for your consent before setting non-essential cookies.
Advertising
This website does not currently display advertising or use advertising cookies. If that changes, I will update this policy before any ads appear.
Embedded content and links to other websites
Posts and pages may include embedded content (for example videos, images, charts or posts from other websites). Embedded content behaves exactly as if you had visited the other website: it may collect data about you, use cookies, add its own tracking, and monitor your interaction with it, including if you are logged in to that website.
This site also links to outside websites, including my free finance education library, FinoLib, which is a separate website with its own privacy policy. Once you leave this site, the other site’s privacy policy applies.
Who I share your data with
I do not sell your personal information. I share data only with the service providers that help run the site, and only as needed: the web host and email provider, an automated spam-detection service that checks comments, and the analytics provider (if enabled). I may also disclose information if the law requires it or to protect the site and its visitors from abuse.
How long I keep your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are kept indefinitely so that follow-up comments can be recognized and approved automatically. Messages you send me are kept for as long as needed to respond and for a reasonable period afterward. Server logs are kept for a limited period for security and troubleshooting. You can ask me to delete your comments or messages at any time (see “Your rights”).
Where your data is processed
This site is read worldwide, and its hosting, email and analytics providers may process data in countries other than your own. Where I can, I choose providers that protect data to recognized standards.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU and UK, the CCPA in California, or India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023), you may have the right to ask what personal data I hold about you, to receive a copy of it, to correct it, to have it erased, and to object to or withdraw consent for certain uses. This does not cover data I am obliged to keep for administrative, legal or security purposes. To make a request, please contact me and I will respond within a reasonable time.
Children
This is a professional website for adults and is not directed at children under 13. I do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent me personal information, please contact me and I will delete it.
Security
I take reasonable technical and organizational steps to protect the data I hold. No website can guarantee absolute security, which is one reason I collect as little as I can.
Changes to this policy
I may update this policy as the site grows. If I add a feature that collects new kinds of data, such as an email newsletter or advertising, I will update this page first. The “Last updated” date at the top always shows the current version.
